Frequently Asked Questions
Why Goat Milk?
Goat milk is rich in lactic acid, an alpha hydroxyl acid which helps exfoliate and remove dead skin cells on the skin surface (the stratum corneum layer of the epidermis) to reveal smoother and healthier skin. The molecular lipid structure of goat milk allows it to be easily absorbed into the skin. Rich in antioxidants, amino acids, and vitamins, goat milk is nutritive for your skin. It contains Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Niacin, B6, Calcium, Magnesium, Selenium, and Potassium. Think of Gracious Goat lotion and creams as a nutrient-packed smoothie for your skin!
Why do you use essential oils, and not artificial fragrances, in your goat milk lotions and creams?
We believe the benefits of essential oils far exceed the need for fragrance, and as more and more people develop sensitivities to chemicals, we wanted to offer a more natural product line. We also wanted to provide lotions and creams for both men and women. Essential oils provide a light, pleasant scent while also providing healing benefits to your skin. Furthermore, if you do want to wear perfume or cologne, our formulations will not interfere or compete with your signature scent.
Why do you use a preservative?
Your personal safety is a priority at Gracious Goat and therefore, we do use an internationally approved, broad-spectrum preservative in our lotions and creams: Optiphen Plus. Without a preservative, over a period of time, lotions and creams are susceptible to the development of bacteria, yeast, and mold. We use the recommended percentage of preservative so you can feel safe using Gracious Goat.
What are Humectants?
Humectants are substances that help attract and retain moisture in the skin. Humectants work by attracting water in the air to the epidermis, the outer layer of your skin that is comprised of 5 sub-layers, with the stratum corneum being the topmost sub-layer. They also attract water from the dermis, the deeper layer of the skin beneath the epidermis. As a result, humectants can serve to retain and restore your skin's natural moisture. Gracious Goat products contain the humectants lactic acid (which is naturally occurring in goat milk) and vegetable glycerin.
What are Occlusives?
Occlusives prevent transepidermal water loss (TEWL) by creating a protective barrier on the skin and they naturally slow the evaporation of water from the skin's surface. Occlusives vary in permeability, therefore is it important to carefully select ingredients that won't result in clogging pores or prevent the absorption of other nutrient ingredients. it is ideal to have lotion and cream formulations that have a combination of occlusives, humectants, and emollients. Gracious Goat uses Vitamin E and mango butter for their gentle occlusive properties.
What are Emollients?
Remember the stratum corneum, the topmost layer of the skin? Emollients do their work here by filling in this sub-layer's tiny crevasses and acting as natural lubricants, thereby providing and maintaining soft, smooth, and pliable skin. Emollients make your skin feel and look amazing while giving the lotion and cream a silky texture, Gracious Goat products use the following emollients: goat milk (hey. . .there it is again), aloe vera oil, grapeseed oil, sweet almond oil, and castor oil.
Where do you get your goat milk for your formulations?
Gracious Goat sources its goat milk from a reputable, well-established goat dairy from the West Coast that provides goat milk of exceptional quality. The goat milk contains no preservatives, antibiotics, or bovine growth hormones (BGH-rBST).
How do I know Gracious Goat products are safe?
Each formulation of lotion, cream, and balm is handcrafted in small batches to ensure the highest standards of safety and quality. Gracious Goat follows industry best practices when formulating and producing our unique products. Although not required by law, we test our lotions and creams for bacteria, yeast, and mold to ensure your safety.
Why do you have a "use by date" on your lotions and creams?
We want you to have the best possible sensorial experience with our products. We made a conscious decision to use essential oils in our lotions and creams (instead of artificial fragrances) because of their nutrient benefits to your skin. Over time, the fragrance of essential oils can diminish. Therefore we encourage you to enjoy the lotion and cream before the listed date.
What is your return policy?
